3rd ranked South Eugene Axe boys soccer ground out a 4-0 victory at home over McNary Friday night in 1st round play of the 6A state tournament. Zac Walker opened scoring in 14th minute by slotting home his shot in front of goal from Griffin Rea’s 1-touch pass.

The halftime score was 1-0 with SE on 7 shots to McNary’s 2. In the 56th minute Rea tapped in a cross from Elijah Mālama. In the 71st Rea scored his second from a driven cross by Ryan Coplin. In the last minute, Zach Petrina pounced on a rebound in the goalmouth.

Tate Glock earned his 9th shutout of the year off of 4 saves. South Eugene outshot McNary 16-6 in the game.

South Eugene were able to mitigate McNary’s quick press and counterattack from through the consistent efforts of midfielder Whit Schatz and center backs Owen Whitney and Anders Davidson. McNary changed their system of play in the 2nd half but a couple of positional adjustments and resolute attack by South Eugene resulted in the 3 second half goals.
