The 4th-ranked South Eugene Axe boys soccer turned in a decisive 7-0 victory at Sheldon Friday night in the Emerald Derby. The Axe led 3-0 in the first 10 minutes and outshot the Irish 26-4. Axe goalkeeper Tate Glock earned his 7th shutout of the season.
Griffin Rea opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 1st minute after drawing a foul as he drove into the box. 2 minutes later, Tetsuzo Hokari tucked away South’s second goal on the back post from Zac Walker’s hard cross across the goal mouth (2-0). In the 10th minute Charlie Lacey buried a through ball by Elijah Mālama low to the far post (3-0).
Mālama beat 3 defenders at the top of the box to drive home his goal in the 23rd minute (4-0). Whit Schatz drove his shot low and near from the top of the box in the 30th minute (5-0). Asa Noteboom flicked in his header just over Irish goalkeeper from Owen Whitney’s free kick. Charlie Lacey scored his second goal in the 47th minute from Ryan Coplin’s cross.
